How to hire a logo designer on Fiverr (without wasting your first order)
This guide contains paid links. If you buy through them, Brand Sprout Works may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. How this works.
The short answer: choose a designer whose portfolio already shows the style you want, pick a package that includes vector files and at least two revisions, and send your brief by message before you order. Price matters less than those three things.
Step 1: Know the style before you search
Searching “logo” on Fiverr returns thousands of gigs. Searching “minimalist logo”, “vintage badge logo” or “mascot logo” returns designers who specialize. If you are not sure which style fits, read our minimalist logo ideas first and save a few examples you like.
Step 2: Shortlist three designers by portfolio
Open the gig and scroll through every image, not just the first one. You are looking for:
- At least three logos in your style. One good example can be luck; three is a skill.
- Real-world mockups, such as the logo on a storefront, a business card or packaging. They show the designer thinks about how logos are used.
- Variety in their work. If every logo looks the same, yours will too.
Then read the reviews. Filter for reviews from buyers with businesses like yours, and look for comments about communication and revisions, not only “great work”.
Step 3: Read the package table carefully
Most gigs offer three packages: Basic, Standard and Premium. The difference is usually what you get, not the quality of the design. Compare these rows:
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Number of concepts | More starting ideas means a better chance one fits |
| Revisions | Two or more lets you refine the concept you pick |
| Vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) | Needed for print, signs and any large use. A PNG alone is not enough |
| Transparent background | Needed to place the logo on photos and colored backgrounds |
| Source file | Lets another designer edit it later |
| Commercial use | Confirms you can use it on products you sell |
If the Basic package lacks a vector file, the Standard package is usually the real starting price.
Step 4: Message the designer before you order
Send your one-page brief (here is how to write one) and ask two questions: which package they recommend for it, and whether they have done a similar logo. A clear, specific reply is the best predictor of a smooth order. A copy-paste reply is a warning sign.
Step 5: Check the delivery before you accept it
When the files arrive, check them against the delivery section of our free branding checklist: full-color and one-color versions, a version that works small, the color codes and the font names. Ask for any missing piece before you mark the order complete.
Seller levels and badges, briefly
Fiverr shows a seller level on each profile, from new sellers up to Top Rated, and a separate Pro badge for designers Fiverr has vetted. Higher levels mean a longer track record, not a guarantee of the style you want. A newer designer with a strong portfolio in your style can be a better fit than a Top Rated generalist.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the cheapest gig and then paying for extras. Compare the total with the files you need.
- Ordering without a brief. “Make me a logo” gets you a generic logo.
- Approving from a large preview only. Always look at the logo at the size of a social media avatar.
